Family Day Care Homes
I
f you keep children in your home or have children of your own who need care and want to receive supplemental income, the USDA offers monthly reimbursement for serving healthy meals through the Family Day Care Homes program.Day Care Homes are private homes where children under age 13 are cared for. Homes provide a safe environment where children can learn, grow and receive nutritious meals and snacks. There are two types of Day Care Homes: Licensed homes that care for 6-15 children and Alternate Approved homes that care for five children or less.
There are many benefits for providers. Providers have a positive impact on the education of young children with the help of materials that increase the children’s reading skills. Providers also interact with other care providers and expand their careers in child care.
Providers must be at least 18 years old and be under sponsoring organization. A Safety Sanitation Inspection or License is required if caring for more than five children. Homes and providers must be monitored by a sponsor and the provider must attend any and all required training. Children cared for in the home must be enrolled in the program. Homes must have an operable telephone, a fire extinguisher and a smoke detector. Providers must follow Child Nutrition Program regulations, policies and guidance.
